What could be more lovely than a beautiful sunny day in May, an eighteenth century country house hotel and a gorgeous wedding inspired by Pinterest and wedding blogs? Clare and Andrew have written a wonderful wedding report to share with us all and I’m so pleased and proud to have their big day on the English Wedding Blog.
Cubley Hall is a charming Yorkshire wedding venue with period features set in the rolling hills – where Andrew and Clare escaped for a few quiet moments to have some of the loveliest portrait photos I’ve seen. They chose Mark Tierney (Tierney Photography) to capture their wedding and told me he was brilliant, which is always fantastic to hear.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?
Yes, extremely pleased. Mark was highly recommended by friends at work. We knew when we first met him he was exactly what we were looking for, he was brilliant on the day and the photos are perfect.

Andrew’s mum was crying in the church even before the service started
How did the two of you meet?
Andrew popped up as a match of the day on match.com, they were clearly right!
How long did you spend planning your wedding?
Around 18 months
Best bit of budget advice?
Know how much you have to spend and stick to it. It’s very easy to get carried away. As we had plenty of time, with help from family and friends we handmade lots of things. We used Pinterest and wedding blogs to inspire us.
Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:
We designed all our stationery ourselves and printed some things with vistaprint and others at home. We bought some of the images from etsy.com to ensure they looked professional
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Yes absolutely – I knew it was the dress for me as soon as I saw it and the assistant described it as a Grace Kelly style dress. I realised how much I loved it when the original wedding dress shop went into administration 1 month before the wedding! Stressful times but it worked out in the end due to an amazing manager at Ellis bridal and Confetti and Lace stepping in to save the day

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
Professional all the way. I can’t recommend a professional make-up artist more than Lauren Sally http://www.laurensally.co.uk She not only made me feel relaxed and calm on the morning of our wedding she made me look awesome and totally captured the look I wanted.
Wedding flowers:
We met Abby from Floral magic www.floral-magic.co.uk at a local wedding fair. We fell in love with her flowers and had total confidence that she would create an amazing display. We went for muted roses called amnesia and sweet avalanche, with eucalyptus and white thistle for Andrew’s Scottish heritage.
What do you remember most about the wedding ceremony?
All of it but we were especially moved by all of our wonderful friends and family getting involved and really embracing the day. Our vicar Hilda Issacson welcomed both me and Andrew along with our family and friends and ensured the service was perfect.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
We had our reception in a stone barn which is decorated in traditional styling and fairy lights so it already looked amazing. We just added a few extra touches with silver mercury vases and posies of flowers on the tables and using the candelabras already there
The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?
Both! The centre piece of the reception was the wedding cake made by my mum Barbara. She did an amazing job and spent many hours creating a beautiful wedding cake. I added some quirkiness by surprising Andrew with a wedding cheese cake made by http://www.finecheese.co.uk (featured on the English Wedding Blog in Say Cheese… in July!) I made the mini bride and groom topper and my Mum decorated with flowers and fruit on the morning of the wedding.
Entertainment:
Lucky for us Andrew’s mum and dad, Brenda and Norrie, run Dogsbody Ceilidh Band, one of the best ceilidh bands in the north www.dogsbodyband.co.uk They kicked off the night’s entertainment and got everyone really involved on the dance floor. We finished with a disco made up from our favourite songs and requests from our guests. We did this by creating a Spotify playlist and downloading it prior to the night, wouldn’t have done it any other way!
On the day tips and advice:
Enjoy every moment, try not to over plan or over worry. Go with it all on the day – no matter what happens it will be the best day of your life
What’s the best thing about being married?
Just the day to day stuff is great, even just ticking the married box on the visa on our way to honeymoon sent a thrill. Plus we have a life time worth of cheese to eat!
